History

Explorer James Potter is the first European to see the Nittany Valley. He tells his companion "By heavens, Thompson, I have discovered an empire!".

1855

Farmer's High School founded by the Pennsylvania Agricultural Society. Would become Pennsylvania State University.

1862

Farmer's High School renamed Agricultural College of Pennsylvania

1863

Old Main completed.

1864

Memorial Day created in Boalsburg when Emma Hunter and Sophie Keller lay flowers at the grave of Emma's father who died in the Civil War.

1874

Agricultural College of Pennsylvania becomes the Pennsylvania State College

1950

Milton Stover Eisenhower becomes president of Penn State

1953

Penn State finally becomes a University under President Milton Stover Eisenhower.

1990

Penn State joins the Big Ten Conference. Big Ten Football will wait for three years.

1993

Penn State joins the Big Ten Conference.

2005
